A Florida man has been arrested more than a year after his girlfriend was shot to death while sleeping in bed next to their three children.

Porshe Streeter, 30, was killed during an apparent home invasion in an Orlando residence on the evening of Jan. 13, 2024, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

Saun Rainge Jr., the father of Streeter’s three children and witness to the shooting, was arrested this week, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday, April 4.

Benjamin Garmon was also arrested in connection with Streeter’s murder on allegations that he was acting on orders by Rainge.

On the night of the incident, Streeter was found dead in the bedroom after Rainge called 911 to report a shooting, per the affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE.

Responding officers found Rainge with a gunshot wound to his arm. When they asked him if Streeter was alright, he directed them to the bedroom and said he had just spoken to her.

Rainge initially told cops that he was followed into the apartment at gunpoint by the attacker, who went into the bedroom and shot Street as she reached for her phone, gunning down Streeter as she reached for her phone.

Rainge said he was going to get help from neighbors but stayed behind at his son’s insistence, tending to Streeter and insisting she “keep fighting.”

An investigator alleged in the affidavit that Rainege’s story and timeline could not be true, given the dried blood around Streeter’s wounds and a medical examiner’s report that suggested there was mild decomposition to her body, suggesting she had died some time ago.

Investigators claim certain evidence, including witness testimony and security footage, indicate Streeter died about two hours before the 911 call was made.

Rainge told police he was at the residence to check on his family. Police alleged in the affidavit, based on text messages between Rainge and Streeter, he was not supposed to have access to the residence at that time.

Police were able to identify Garmon based on security footage and the couple’s 10-year-old child, whose description of Garmon matched the video surveillance images of him.

Both Rainge and Garmon are facing first-degree murder charges, per police. Online court information for Rainge’s did not indicate a plea; PEOPLE has reached out to the public defender’s office assigned to his case.

Online court information did not show Garmon’s criminal record as of Friday afternoon.
