A man in Georgia has been attacked after two men posing as Amazon workers forced their way into his home, it’s been reported.
On Saturday, Jan. 11 at around 8 a.m. local time, the two people, who appeared to be wearing Amazon-style clothing, could be seen entering the Savannah home in video footage shared on Facebook by the Savannah Police Department (SPD).
One man was holding a package, and both had their hoods up. They were seen going through the door, before exiting as the victim shouted, “Help! Help!”
Police posted the clip on Tuesday, Jan. 14, asking the public for assistance in “solving a home invasion in the 500 block of Price Street.”
CBS affiliate WTOC identified the man as George “Dirk” Hardison, 66, stating the victim had been beaten after thinking the fake Amazon workers were delivering a package that morning.
The outlet stated that the victim was taken to hospital and had to get 14 staples in his head.
Citing a police report, WTOC said that the two men “demanded money once inside” the property, before “beating Hardison with some sort of sledgehammer” in the assault that reportedly lasted for almost eight minutes.
The suspects “made off with only $80,” per the outlet.
Police “observed several lacerations on Mr. Hardison’s head as he was sitting in his own blood from his injuries,” according to WTOC, citing the report.
Per a Good Morning America news report shared on X, the victim has now been released from hospital after being “treated for several injuries.”
A GoFundMe page set up to raise money for the victim had reached over $12,300 as of Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Police added in their Facebook post, “Contact SPD if you happened to see two people dressed as Amazon workers in the area around the time of the incident. You can contact us via CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020, or submit an anonymous tip through the SPD mobile app.”
SPD didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.

Amazon tells PEOPLE the individuals weren’t making a scheduled delivery, and the company monitors the internet regularly for unauthorized Amazon staff apparel being sold, demanding that the items be removed when and where possible.
People who make deliveries on behalf of Amazon do not routinely knock on doors or ask customers to sign for packages unless they have already prearranged it, per the company.
