A man has been arrested and charged with murder after human remains linked to a missing persons case were found at a home in Texas.
Michael Dean Davis Jr., 27, was arrested and charged in Laredo, Texas, on Nov. 12 in connection with the discovery of human remains found at a property in Buffalo, Texas on Oct, 22, Leon County Sheriff’s Office stated in a release on Facebook.
An investigation over an adult and child who were reported missing on June 19 led to the search being carried out at the home, according to the release. The adult and child were last seen by their family in July 2022.
“On Nov. 12, Michael Dean Davis Jr. was successfully apprehended in Laredo for the charge of Murder and was transported to the Webb County Jail,” the sheriff’s office said.
The human remains were “positively identified” to be that of a 27-year-old woman named Mahogany Washington, who was the mother of Davis’ 8-year-old son and the adult reported missing, per theLaredo Morning Times and KGNS.
The Laredo Police Department, the U.S. Marshals and the sheriff’s Office were tipped off that Davis was living with his missing son at a residence near Cuatro Vientos in south Laredo, the Laredo Morning Times reported.
The boy was found unharmed at the time of Davis’ arrest and he was sent to Child Protective Services, according to the outlet.
“Multiple agencies worked together in order to coordinate the arrest of Davis and the safe recovery of a missing and endangered child,” the Laredo police said in their statement.

“The investigation revealed that Davis was likely armed and was a possible threat to his son. Due to the suspect’s violent tendencies and potential threat to law enforcement and the surrounding neighborhood, a plan of approach was created and executed on Nov. 12,” police added, per the Laredo Morning Times.
Police uncovered several rifles, gas masks and an armor suit inside the home where Davis and the boy were found, KGNS reported.
Davis received additional charges of endangerment of a child based on the poor condition of the home, according to the outlet.
He is currently being held on a bond of $3,000,000, per the release. The investigation is ongoing.
The Laredo Police Department did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
