  • A Florida man allegedly trying to evade the police crashed his car with three children inside
  • Larry Rada Jr. then allegedly tried to escape by throwing the children into a stranger’s residence
  • He has been arrested on child neglect charges

A Florida man is under arrest after police say he threw three young children over a fence to evade arrest.

Larry Rada Jr. was apprehended following a crash with three children in his vehicle in Fort Myers, Fla., on Saturday, Sept. 13, according to a booking report filed by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and reviewed by PEOPLE.

Rada is the father of one of the children and uncle to the other two, according to the booking report.

Authorities allege Rada was speeding down San Carlos Blvd when police tried to stop him, at which point he allegedly did “a complete 360” spin and sped away, per the booking report.

While the deputy did not engage in a chase, police say he soon received reports that Rada had allegedly crashed his vehicle into a ditch.

Rada is accused of then “hurling” the three children, whose ages have not been publicly disclosed, over a 6-foot fence into a stranger’s home, per the report.

A witness provided police with Ring camera footage that allegedly shows Rada “grab each one of the children and hurl them over his privacy fence…in a manner with blatant disregard for the children’s safety,” according to the police report.

The children were in distress, according to police and a neighbor. They were heard crying and complained of head and stomach pain. One of the children was vomiting.

They were transported to a medical facility and released.

Rada allegedly told authorities he had spent the day at the beach with the three kids but grew “scared” when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull him over, at which point he allegedly sped away, according to the booking report.

Rada, who allegedly identified himself and the three kids in the surveillance footage, “knew what he did was wrong but was scared to return to prison,” per the report.

Rada was arrested on three counts each of child neglect and child abuse, per the sheriff’s office.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he has entered pleas or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
