A University of Missouri student is accused of allegedly strangling a fellow student for blocking them on Snapchat.
Maxwell Warren, 18, is facing charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree domestic assault, second-degree domestic assault and fourth-degree domestic assault.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by PEOPLE, Warren allegedly showed up to the victim’s residence hall room at the university on Sept. 26 after the fellow student blocked him on Snapchat.
Warren allegedly knocked on the door to confront the student about being blocked. The student opened the door a crack and Warren allegedly pushed the door open and then shoved the person against a bed before wrapping his hands around their neck.
“While Warren strangled [victim], he stated, ‘What do you think you are doing? You need to add me back right now,’” the statement claims. “This incident left a red mark that appeared to have the imprint of a hand.”

“[The victim] ended up unblocking Warren on Snapchat after the event,” according to the statement.
Two days later, the statement claims Warren allegedly sent a message to the victim on Instagram, “I remember getting really upset once or twice when I choked you.”

He allegedly followed the message with “I feel awful U deserve so much better,” the statement says.
On Sept. 30, the victim and Warren were talking over Snapchat when the victim mentioned the Sept. 26 incident.
“Yeah, and you put your hands on me,” the victim reportedly stated, per the statement. Warren allegedly responded, “I would do it again, I …. ing hate you, I would gladly beat your ass.”
A month later, on Oct. 29, Warren wanted to see the victim again. They let Warren in the dorm room, and after his advances were rebuffed, Warren became “frustrated” and strangled the victim again until the victim briefly lost consciousness, the statement alleges.
The victim told Warren to no longer contact them.
According to a second probable cause statement, Warren allegedly pushed a person to the ground at a parking lot on university grounds on Oct. 29. A person in a pick up truck intervened and the victim left with them.
Warren is banned from the campus “pending further investigation into the allegations surrounding the criminal charges against him,” Christopher Ave, the director of media relations and public affairs at University of Missouri told The Kansas City Star. “The university does not tolerate acts of violence and holds accountable anyone found to violate the law or university policies,” Ave said.
Warren has entered a plea of not guilty. A bond hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10. A preliminary hearing is sent for Dec. 9. His attorney could not be reached for comment.
