  • Nathan Orlando Cureton allegedly kidnapped 24-year-old Taylor Gennalee Maraj at gunpoint on Interstate 85 in South Carolina
  • After shooting Maraj, Cureton continued driving before turning the gun on himself
  • Authorities confirmed the kidnapping through video evidence and are still investigating the incident

A South Carolina man kidnapped a woman on a highway and killed her before turning the gun on himself.

Nathan Orlando Cureton, 38, allegedly shot and killed 24-year-old Taylor Gennalee Maraj before killing himself on May 24, according to Greenville News, WYFF News 4 and WSPA-TV, who cited the Mauldin Police Department.

At approximately 11:40 a.m., authorities received a report of the kidnapping, Mauldin police previously said in a statement. When officers arrived, nobody was there, but police confirmed through video evidence that a male with a gun forced a woman into a blue Subaru Impreza.

Police said that Cureton shot Maraj, who was trapped inside the Subaru Impreza, Greenville News reported, citing police. He then continued to drive before turning the gun and shooting himself.

Both the suspect and victim were found by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office on Interstate 85 at approximately 12:30 p.m., the police statement said.

Police said the victim was transported to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

The Mauldin Police Department are still investigating the kidnapping and murder-sucide, they said in their statement. Authorities believe the two knew each other, but the exact nature of their relationship is still under investigation.
