Kyren Lacy, LSU Wide Receiver, Arrested on Charge of Negligent Homicide over Fatal Hit-and-Run Death of 78-Year-Old Man

Kyren Lacy is facing multiple charges after being arrested for the hit-and-run on Dec. 17 that killed a 78-year-old man.

On Sunday, Jan. 12, Louisiana State Police confirmed that the former wide receiver at LSU and potential 2025 NFL draft pick, “met with Troopers and was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on charges related to the arrest warrant.”

Lacy, 24, was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

It was previously reported that authorities issued an arrest warrant for Lacy on Jan. 10 on suspicion that he left the crash scene.

The 78-year-old man, who died from his injuries at the hospital, was identified as former marine Herman Hall of Thibodaux, LA.

“The investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2023 Dodge Charger was traveling south on LA Hwy 20,” police said in a news release. “The driver of the Dodge, later identified as 24-year-old Kyren Lacy of Thibodaux, recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated No-Passing Zone.”

The police added, “As Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge.”

“Traveling behind the pickup was a 2017 Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the on coming Dodge Charger,” the release continued. “As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento.”

Authorities went on to state that Lacy “drove around the crash scene” and went south on LA Hwy 20.

The victim of the crash had been a passenger in the Kia Sorrento.

Following an investigation, troopers and LSP Detectives identified Lacy as driving at the time.

“Troopers are in communication with Lacy and his legal representation to turn himself in,” officials stated, adding that the investigation was active and ongoing.

In a statement shared on X, Lacy’s agent said he was “fully cooperating with the authorities.”

“We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation,” wrote Rocky Arceneaux of Alliance Sports.

“To anyone impacted, directly or indirectly, we want to assure that this matter is being taken very seriously and we are committed to resolving it responsibly,” they added, before concluding that they won’t be making any further comments out of respect for the investigation.
