- Two people, Lam Shun and Irene Pun Hau-yin, were convicted this week for helping Kwong attempt to escape the city by boat
A glamorous Hong Kong model’s disappearance led to one of the city’s most shocking murder cases — and now, two people have been convicted of helping her ex-husband, one of the accused killers, attempt a dramatic escape by sea.
Abby Choi, 28, was reported missing in February 2023. Days later, her dismembered body was discovered in a rental home in rural Tai Po, outfitted with a meat grinder, electric saw and soup pots filled with human remains, PEOPLE previously reported.
Additional remains were uncovered in the unit’s refrigerator. Investigators also found raincoats believed to have been used during the crime — authorities said she was killed and dismembered inside.
Choi’s ex-husband, Alex Kwong Kong-chi, his brother Anthony Kwong, and their father Kwong Kau, were arrested and charged with the model’s murder.
Jenny Li Sui-heung, Kwong’s 65-year-old mother, faces one count of perverting the course of justice for allegedly misleading investigators, according to local news outlet RTHK.
Prosecutors said the slaying was the result of a bitter financial feud.
Choi, an influencer who had appeared at Paris Fashion Week and amassed a significant following online, had continued to support Kwong’s family even after her divorce.

A day after Choi’s body was discovered, Alex Kwong attempted to flee Hong Kong by boat, PEOPLE previously reported — prosecutors claim he planned to escape to Macau via yacht.
Two people — yacht rental agent Lam Shun, 44, and Irene Pun Hau-yin, 31 — were convicted on June 17 in Kowloon City Court of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice for their role in arranging the escape, according to the South China Morning Post and The Standard.
According to evidence presented in court, per the outlets, Lam and Pun knew Kwong was evading police when they helped coordinate his yacht rental, even if they didn’t know he was the ex-husband of Abby Choi and the primary suspect in a high-profile murder case.
The court found that the pair acted “with the intention to obstruct justice,” and both were remanded into custody. Their sentencing is scheduled for June 27.
Meanwhile, murder charges against Kwong and his family members remain pending in Hong Kong’s High Court. No trial date has been announced. PEOPLE was not able to reach attorneys for them.
