An Iowa man has been sentenced to up to 55 years in prison for kidnapping a former girlfriend in September.
Troy Mure Jr., 33 — who was previously convicted of vehicular homicide in a separate case nearly a decade prior — pleaded guilty to second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary and being a felon in possession of a weapon on Friday, Jan. 10, according to a news release from the Polk County Attorney’s Office.
According to the attorney’s office, the Des Moines resident admitted to being armed when he entered the home of a former girlfriend on Sept. 21, before forcing her into his car and driving off.
“I didn’t want anyone to know where we were,” he told the court, per the attorney’s office.
Mure was ordered by District Judge Joseph Seidlin to have his sentences run consecutively as part of a plea agreement. He will be eligible for parole after 22 and a half years in prison, per the office.
He was also ordered to take part in a Victim-Offender Dialogue, which the Iowa Department of Corrections describes as a voluntary “face-to-face” meeting “that involves careful planning and preparation with a trained facilitator” when a survivor wishes to meet with the offender in the case.
Per the attorney’s office, Mure was previously convicted of vehicular homicide in 2016 after a Nov. 23, 2015 crash that killed a passenger in his vehicle, 22-year-old Scalicity Boyd.
He was reportedly traveling 86 miles per hour before hitting a utility pole and was released after serving a minimum three-year term.
During a previous conversation with ABC affiliate WOI-DT in September about their daughter’s death nine years prior, the mother of Boyd — whose last name the outlet lists as Perez — described Mure’s then-new charges as “a fresh new wound.”
“I feel that justice wasn’t served, and he showed that’s a prime example that happens when justice isn’t served,” Shalisha Barber said at the time.
