The family of a woman allegedly stabbed to death by her husband has issued an emotional statement, remembering her as “remarkable.”
Carra Samantha Luke, 48, was found dead in her home in Brisbane, Australia, on Saturday, Aug. 23, after allegedly being stabbed multiple times in a bedroom, according to Australian newspaper The Courier-Mail.
Her husband, Shane Scheikowski, 52, has been charged with one count of murder and one count of entering dwelling with intent, per the outlet.
An Aug. 23 police report from Queensland Police said emergency services were called to the residence around 12:30 a.m. local time. The victim “was located unresponsive with critical injuries and was subsequently declared deceased at the scene,” authorities said.
A police update on Sunday, Aug. 24, stated that “a 52-year-old” man, “known to the woman,” has been charged in relation to the homicide investigation, and the suspect “is due to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court” on Monday, Aug. 25.
The family of Luke, a nurse and mother of two, issued a statement obtained by The Courier-Mail, saying she was “a remarkable woman who touched countless lives with her warmth, generosity, and unwavering kindness.”
Luke’s family also remembered her as “a devoted mother, daughter, sister, niece, aunty and friend” who “gave love so freely that everyone who knew her felt like part of her family.”
The family’s statement continued: “Through her compassion and gentle spirit, she carried the power to comfort, encourage, and uplift others, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever.”

They added that Luke “filled every moment with care and an open heart.” The family also said her dedication to being a nurse was “a true reflection of who she was.”
“Even in the midst of her own struggles, she found the strength to tend to the needs of others, embodying selflessness in every sense. Her legacy is not only in the countless lives she healed, but in the love and light she brought to the world each day,” the family said.
“Though we grieve her passing deeply, we celebrate the beautiful soul we were so fortunate to know, and we carry her spirit forward in the kindness we show to one another,” they added, before asking for “privacy and respect during this difficult time.”

Luke was employed at Nundah Doctors Surgery at her time of death. She had worked there for 20 years, according to a statement the medical clinic shared on its website.
“A most empathic and caring human being, nurse, mother, and friend Carra has been with us for 20 years and was the heart and soul of the practice. She has cared for her patients and helped through the most difficult times with the greatest professionalism and dedication,” Nundah Doctors Surgery said.
“She is irreplaceable, and we will miss her every day. She will always remain in our hearts here at the practice. To all our dear patients and friends of the practice, thank you for your support, care, and love,” the clinic’s statement continued.
