More skeletal remains were found less than a day after a human skull was discovered at Coney Island, New York City, police say.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, a human skull was found in the bushes off the Riegelmann Boardwalk, the New York Police Department confirms in a police report obtained by PEOPLE.

Then on Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the afternoon, additional remains were discovered at the same spot, reports ABC7.

Investigators say that the remains were in the bushes for some time, according to ABC 7.

“That’s very extreme. That means that they’ve just been there for a very long time, and them just now getting found is real sad,” one person told the outlet.

“It is crazy, hopefully it doesn’t happen again,” a resident told Fox News Digital, while another called the discovery of the remains “spooky” and “unsettling.”
