Two people were arrested on charges of murder in connection with the shooting death of a California high school football player.
Abel Ramirez, 27, and a 16-year-old male juvenile were taken into custody on Monday, Feb. 2, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
The shooting of 14-year-old Jeremy Rosales occurred on Jan. 16 just before 8:30 p.m. near Glen Canyon Lane and Burwood Avenue in Victorville, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department press release.
Officers were called to the area after Sheriff’s Dispatch received “numerous calls for service after multiple shots were heard,” per the press release. At the scene, officers found Rosales suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to KTLA, Rosales, who went by the nickname Tank, was a student at Oak Hills High School and attended Team Elite Sports Academy.
“He developed a great name in the trenches because he was such a beast,” Rosales’s coach Elliott Reyes told KTLA. “He worked hard in the weight room, on the field. He was your typical student-athlete you would love to have in your program.”
“He was a straight-A student, a good hardworking young man,” Reyes added.
A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with funeral expenses described Rosales as “more than a football player.”

“He was a great kid with an infectious smile, a loyal teammate, and a brother to so many who stood beside him on the field,” the post read. “He showed up with heart, grit, and humility, always lifting others up and embodying what it truly means to be part of a team. To those who played football with him, Tank wasn’t just a teammate, he was family.”
“His loss has shaken our community to its core,” it continued. “The pain felt by his family, friends, and teammates is profound, and no words can fully capture the sorrow of saying goodbye far too soon.”
Ramirez is being held at the High Desert Detention Center in lieu of $1 million bail.
The teenage suspect was taken to the High Desert Juvenile Detention Center.
