NEED TO KNOW

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs’ children wrote letters in support of their father who is set to be sentenced next month
  • Combs was previously convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution
  • Combs’ attorneys are hoping to get the music mogul released before the end of 2025

As Sean “Diddy” Combs awaits his sentencing on prostitution charges, six of his children have written letters in support of their father, who has been behind bars for over a year.

Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and his fate now lies in the hands of Judge Arun Subramanian, who oversaw the music mogul’s high-profile criminal trial this summer.

The Bad Boy Records founder could still face prison time, but he avoided a potential life sentence after he was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking.

Combs’ defense team submitted a sentencing memorandum that includes several dozen letters of support, including ones written by members of his family.

Six of Combs’ seven children — Justin Combs, adopted son Quincy Brown, Chance Combs, Christian Combs, as well as twins D’Lila and Jessie Combs — wrote letters submitted as part of the memorandum, with the exception of his toddler-age daughter.

The letters attempt to paint Combs as a loving father who, despite his mistakes, has been a consistent presence in their lives who has instilled positive values.

Sean "Diddy" Combs arrives at the Pre-GRAMMY Gala and GRAMMY Salute to Industry Icons Honoring Sean "Diddy" Combs at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 25, 2020 in Beverly Hills, California.

“My dad is not perfect,” Justin Combs wrote. “I know he has made mistakes, and I do not deny that. But I refuse to let those mistakes erase the truth of who he is: a loving, present father who has instilled in me and my siblings the importance of respect, of honoring women, and of standing tall in the face of adversity. He is the anchor of our family, the one we look to for guidance and reassurance.”

Quincy Brown, Chance Combs, D'Lila Star Combs, Jessie Combs, Love Combs, Justin Combs, Christian King Combs, Diddy Combs children and Charlie Lucci arrive for the continuation of the jury selection phase of the Sean Diddy Combs trial

Brown, Christian and the twins referenced the death of their mother, Kim Porter, Combs’ longtime on-and-off-again girlfriend, who died in 2018, and highlighted their father’s importance to the family.

“My Pops, as he’s always done for his children, stepped up and made it a priority to be present with us at a time when he didn’t even know how to be there for himself,” wrote Brown, who was adopted by Combs after he began a relationship with Porter. “Having to say ‘goodbye’ to our mother brought us closer in ways that only grief could.”

D’Lila and Jessie, who recently graduated high school, expressed similar sentiments in a joint letter.

“Our family has faced many challenges through the years but no matter what we continue to stick together through it all,” the twins said. “We know who [our] father truly is, a caring, loving, generous, passionate and dedicated man.”

Christian Combs called his father the “best” and implored Subramanian to release him from jail.

“Please let him out!” he wrote. “This is driving me crazy and my family crazy! I’m asking for grace and compassion to the family please let my dad out of jail!”

The defense sentencing memorandum requested that Combs be sentenced to no more than 14 months in prison, which would be nearly equal to the time he has already served in jail by the time of his sentencing hearing in October.

If the judge sides with the defense’s proposal, the mogul could be released before the end of the year, which his family is hoping for.

“Some of my siblings do not have their mother and are now missing a father figure in their lives,” Chance Combs wrote in her letter. “We miss him deeply and need his presence, especially now.”

Also among those who wrote letters in support of Combs was his mother, Janice Combs, who will turn 85 in December and has dealt with health issues in recent years.

Combs has routinely been denied release on bail both before and after his conviction, with Subramanian most recently noting that Combs’ attorneys admitted that their client had been violent with his ex-romantic partners, including Casandra “Cassie” Ventura.

Since his arrest in September 2024, Combs has been incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
