A Chicago woman has been arrested after allegedly stabbing her 7-year-old son because he “caused a mess,” according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Llovana Torres, 26, was taken into custody on the morning of May 17, shortly after authorities say she attacked her son with a knife at their home.
The court documents state that Torres woke up that day to find the house in disarray, despite having spent the night cleaning. She became “angry” and allegedly began hitting her son which prompted him to flee and hide inside a kitchen cabinet under the sink.
When she couldn’t pull him out, Torres allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed into the cabinet until she heard him scream “ouch,” per the documents.
Realizing the boy was bleeding, Torres took him to her mother’s apartment in the same building. There, the child’s grandmother saw a stab wound in his abdomen and “flesh hanging out of the side,” according to the documents.
A cousin who was also present reportedly overheard Torres admit that she had threatened to “cut or stab” the boy if he didn’t come out from hiding.

The boy was taken to Evanston Hospital at the grandmother’s insistence. Due to the severity of his injuries he was airlifted to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where he underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured diaphragm and multiple stab wounds.
He was later placed on a ventilator and chest tube.
According to the documents, Torres informed medical staff that she stabbed her son because she was “waving the knife around” while attempting to find him in the cabinet.
She has been booked on one count of aggravated battery of a child under 13.
