NEED TO KNOW

  • A judge has granted reigning Miss United States pageant queen Lindsey Langston a restraining order against Rep. Cory Mills after she alleged he threatened and harassed her following their split
  • The judge said there was “reasonable cause to believe [Langston] is in imminent danger of becoming the victim of another act of dating violence” without the restraining order
  • Langston, a Republican state committeewoman, alleged in her petition for a restraining order that Mills threatened to harm anyone new she dated and to share nude images and videos of her with others

A judge has issued a restraining order against Rep. Cory Mills after his ex-girlfriend, the reigning Miss United States Lindsey Langston, accused him of harassing her and threatening to release sexually explicit images and videos.

Florida Circuit Judge Fred Koberlein Jr. granted the restraining order on Tuesday, Oct. 14, which bars the Republican congressman, 45, from stepping within 500 feet of his ex’s home or place of work or contacting her until Jan. 1, according to Politico, NBC News and The Hill.

The judge stated in his decision that there was “reasonable cause to believe [Langston] is in imminent danger of becoming the victim of another act of dating violence” without the restraining order, per Politico and The Hill.

He also said that the evidence substantiated 26-year-old’s Langston’s allegation that Mills caused her “substantial emotional distress,” adding that the congressman failed to present a “credible rebuttal” to her testimony, per the outlets.

PEOPLE has reached out to Mills’ office and an attorney for Langston for comment.

Langston, a Republican state committeewoman who has said she began dating Mills in late 2021, filed a petition for a restraining order in August, alleging that Mills threatened to harm anyone she dated after they broke up and to share nude images and videos of her with others, NBC News reported.

PEOPLE previously reported that Langston had filed a police report with the Columbia County Sheriff’s office in Florida in July and alleged that Mills contacted her multiple times after they broke up threatening to release “nude images and videos of her, to include recorded videos of her and Cory engaging in sexual acts,” according to a police incident report obtained by PEOPLE at the time.

The threats allegedly started “when Cory believed Lindsey to have other romantic partners in her life after the break up,” according to the report, in which Langston says she and Mills dated from November 2021 to February 2025,

The lawmaker previously denied the claims in a statement to CBS News, saying, “These claims are false and misrepresent the nature of my interactions. I have always conducted myself with integrity, both personally and in service to Florida’s 7th District.”

In one alleged message to Langston, Mills allegedly wrote, per NBC News, “I can send him a few videos of you as well[.] Oh, I still have them.” In another, he allegedly wrote that she “may want to tell every guy you date that if we run into each other at any point. Strap up cowboy[.]”

The pair then testified in two court hearings held in Lake City over the case, in which Mills denied that he was threatening any violence by saying her future boyfriend would need to “strap up,” and said that it was instead a term meant to suggest that a “wild ride” was about to happen, per Politico.

He also claimed that he no longer had any intimate videos because his phone was damaged and needed a replacement, and that he had planned to show videos of her baking to prove that they had a relationship, per the outlet.

However, Judge Koberlein wrote in his decision, “The court, considering the totality of the testimony and the circumstances, does not find [Mills’] testimony concerning the intimate videos to be truthful.”

“Even had the respondent’s testimony been truthful, his response is irrelevant because there was no evidence presented suggesting [Langston] knew the respondent no longer had possession of their intimate videos,” he added, per Politico and NBC News.

This comes several months after police were called to investigate an alleged assault involving Mills and another woman. Both parties denied the incident took place and Mills was not arrested and no charges were filed, per the outlets.
