Girl, 16, Rescued After Seen Being 'Forced' Into Truck: Police By Samira Asma-Sadeque

A Colorado teenager believed to have been in danger was located safely hours after an Amber alert was issued for her.

Jasmin Zapata, 16, was seen in a white pickup truck at her Boulder, Co., residence on the evening of Monday, Sept. 23, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Boulder Police Department previously said.

In their alert, CBI had said Jasmin was seen “being forced into” the vehicle with two men at about 8 p.m. on Monday.

On Tuesday afternoon, CBI announced they located her safely.

In their initial Amber alert, CBI and Boulder police identified 19-year-old Juan Bretado as a suspect in connection with Jasmin’s disappearance.

He was taken into custody after Jasmin was found safe, the Boulder Police Department said in an updated statement on Tuesday.

It wasn’t clear where Jasmin and the suspect were located. In their Tuesday afternoon statement, Boulder police thanked Thornton, Co. police for their assistance in locating the teenager. Thornton is about 25 miles south of Boulder.

The circumstances surrounding Jasmin’s disappearance, and whether she knew the suspect, were not immediately clear.

While Boulder police said Bretado is in custody, they did not disclose information on charges he faces or if they have detained the other man allegedly seen with him when Jasmin was “forced” into the vehicle on Monday evening.
