Ga. Woman Pleads Guilty to Killing Husband After Claiming She Picked Up Gun the Wrong Way By Liam Quinn

A Georgia woman who fatally shot her husband pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, as well as other charges.

Early on the morning of Sept. 19, 2022, Iesha Zenobia Harmon called 911 to report that she had shot her husband, Shedrick Harmon, in their home in Decatur, Ga., claiming that it was accidental, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.

“According to Iesha’s account, two firearms and unfolded laundry were on top of the couple’s bed,” the district attorney’s office said, per the news release. “She claimed to have picked up one of the firearms wrong, discharging the weapon and striking the victim.”

Shedrick was found unresponsive by first responders, having suffered a gunshot to his upper right torso. He was taken to the hospital, where he would later be pronounced dead, per the release.

Authorities subsequently investigated the incident and found that the couple had a history of violence and other issues.

“Text messages between the couple and accounts from friends and family indicate a history of violence, drug and alcohol use, and infidelity in the relationship,” prosecutors said. “The defendant had allegedly threatened the victim with a firearm on several occasions.”

On Dec. 1, 2025, Iesha, 45, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

She was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
