A former Texas Southern University football player was shot dead after getting involved in a fight in a parking garage at his apartment complex in Houston.

Tyler Martinez, 24, “sustained multiple gunshot wounds” in the altercation, which occurred on Friday, July 11, at the 4460 Mac apartments, Houston Police Department Lt. Amber Khan told KHOU 11 on the scene.

The outlet reported that the Houston Fire Department arrived first around 8:10 p.m. to provide emergency care. However, Martinez “did succumb to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Khan said.

“What started this incident, basically, is the victim and the suspect got into a physical altercation in the parking garage,” Khan said. “There was a little bit of distance created and then at that time the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times.”

The accused was identified as Isaac Jasper Robinson, 22. KHOU 11 reported that Robinson lived in the same complex. After leaving the scene following the shooting, Robinson turned himself in to police and was charged with murder, per a statement from the Houston Police Department.

He allegedly confessed to the shooting, according to KHOU 11 and ABC13.

Per KHOU 11, he had no prior criminal history. His bond was set at $150,000 by the judge.
