- Oninda Romelus is accused of shooting and killing her 13-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter
- Her two other children, ages 8 and 9, survived the shooting
- Romelus appeared in a reality TV show more than a decade ago to determine the paternity of her son, who she is now accused of killing
A Texas mother accused of shooting her four children — and killing two of them — once appeared on a reality TV show to determine the paternity of one of the victims.
Oninda Romelus, 31, was arrested by Brazoria County officials early morning on Saturday, Oct. 4, after allegedly shooting her four children, killing her teenage son and toddler daughter, the Brazoria sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Police did not publicly name the children, but they were identified by KHOU 11 as 13-year-old O’Karreo Covington and 3-year-old Amourra Chapell.
Two of Romelus’ other children, an 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, survived the shooting and are in stable condition, per the sheriff’s office.
Law enforcement officers responding to a report of a shooting found Romelus and her children in a vehicle, where they believe the shooting took place.
Romelus was arrested at the scene, police said.
Romelus was once a contestant on Paternity Court, a court TV series that focused on all-things family, ranging from questions about paternity to stories involving DNA.
The series had its last episode on YouTube more than a year ago, and the website for the series was unavailable as of Tuesday, Oct. 7.
In an episode which KHOU 11 reports aired nearly 12 years ago, Romelus told the host that she was involved with two men at the same time.
Her partner Dewayne Seymore claimed she engaged sexually with another man, Jeremy Covington, the same time she conceived O’Karreo, which Romelus admitted.
Neither of the men proved to be the father of then 18-month-old O’Karreo.
Romelus, of Montgomery County, was the one who called 911 and “appeared paranoid” during her interview with police, according to court documents cited by KHOU 11.
She allegedly told police she called 911 because, “instead of them doing it to me, I’m gonna do it to them,” per the court documents.
When asked to clarify what she meant by “do it to them,” she allegedly said, “kill them all.”
She further alleged her children were dead to her and they were “with the devil,” at one point stating: “’cause you can’t take me without me taking you,” per investigators, KHOU 11 reported.
Child Protective Services told KHOU 11 that they are investigating the case and working to ensure the well-being and safety of the surviving children.
