NEED TO KNOW

  • Former NFL player Adam “Pacman” Jones has been charged with assaulting a police officer, public intoxication and disorderly conduct after being arrested near Cincinnati early on Saturday morning, June 7
  • Police did not share details about what led to his arrest
  • The former Cincinnati Bengals defensive back has been arrested a number of times in the last several years, including on charges of public intoxication, evading arrest and assault

Former NFL player Adam “Pacman” Jones has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer.

According to ESPN, the Cincinnati Enquirer and The Athletic, the 41-year-old former defensive back was arrested early in the morning on Saturday, June 7, in Covington, Ky. — just miles from Cincinnati — and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and assault of an officer.

A Covington Police Department spokesperson confirmed the charges to the Enquirer, and said that Jones is accused of assaulting a Covington police officer. Other information was not immediately available about what led to his arrest.

The Covington Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for further information.

According to the outlets, public records show that Jones was booked into Kenton County Jail in Kentucky at 1:51 a.m local time on Saturday. He later posted his $10,000 bond and was released at around 11:30 a.m.

Jones has been arrested a number of times since 2021. Last November, he was arrested in Arlington, Texas, following the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul boxing match on charges of assault on a peace officer, public intoxication, evading arrest and resisting arrest.

The Arlington Police Department told PEOPLE in a statement at the time that the officer who was responding to the scene requested backup, and while she was waiting for them to arrive, she tried to place Jones in handcuffs. However, Jones “got free and started walking away.”

One of Jones’ reps told TMZ Sports at the time that the former football cornerback “adamantly denies the allegations and looks forward to explaining the truth when the time comes.”

In 2023, Jones was arrested at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport after causing a disturbance as an “unruly passenger” on a flight, multiple news outlets reported at the time. He was booked on misdemeanor counts of alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct and terroristic threatening. Jones accepted a plea deal and entered a guilty plea to one count of disorderly conduct, per Cincinnati outlet WCPO.

Prior to that, in 2017, the former NFL player was arrested on charges of assault, disorderly conduct, obstructing official business and harassment with a bodily substance after allegedly creating a disturbance at the Millennium Hotel in Cincinnati, which police confirmed to PEOPLE at the time. Jones pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge of obstructing police, per The New York Times.

The former cornerback was the sixth overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft and began his career with the Tennessee Titans that year. He played primarily for the Cincinnati Bengals during his career, which spanned from 2005 to 2018. He was temporarily suspended in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
