  • Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14
  • On Tuesday, Dec, 16, the DA announced that Nick will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of using a deadly weapon

Newly-released CCTV footage shows Nick Reiner visiting a gas station moments before his arrest for the alleged murder of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

In the footage obtained, the 32-year-old screenwriter is seen buying a drink at a gas station shortly before being arrested by police and taken into custody. In the video, Nick is dressed in a green, white and black tracksuit jacket, a black cap and carrying a red backpack.

Further footage obtained by ABC7 Eyewitness News also shows the moment Nick was approached by police and arrested.

Rob, 78, and his wife, Michele, 70, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Sources told PEOPLE that their youngest child, daughter Romy, 27, discovered the tragic scene.

The Los Angeles Police Department later identified the couple’s son Nick, 32, as a suspect. He was taken into custody about six hours after the grim discovery and booked on suspicion of murder in connection with the deaths.

An LAPD spokesperson told PEOPLE Nick was arrested near the University of California campus. PEOPLE has confirmed Nick is being held without bail.

On Tuesday, Dec. 16, Nick did not appear at his first court hearing since he has not been medically cleared, his high-profile defense attorney, Alan Jackson, told reporters outside a Los Angeles courthouse.

Later that afternoon, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced at a press conference that Nick will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of using a deadly weapon, such as a knife, during the killings. The charges were formally filed shortly thereafter.

Nick, who previously has spoken openly about struggles with addiction and homelessness, beginning in his teens, is one of three children the longtime couple shared.

The night before the killings, Nick, Michele, and Rob all attended a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien, where Nick and Rob got into a “big fight,” two sources who were at the party told PEOPLE.

Nick Reiner is pictured being dramatically arrested hours after the bodies of his famous film director father Rob and his mother Michele were found with multiple knife woods at their $13.5million Brentwood CA home.

“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” one of the sources said.
