Surveillance footage appears to show the 20-year-old college student who disappeared in the Dominican Republic walking arm-in-arm with a man on her way to the beach.
Sudiksha Konanki, a student at the University of Pittsburgh and resident of Loudoun County, Va., was last seen walking on the beach at Riu Republica, a resort in Punta Cana, early on the morning of March 6. She had been traveling in a group of six female students.
The surveillance footage, which was reported by local outlet Noticias SIN, shows Konanki and a man wearing a tank top walking toward the beach, with their backs to the camera.
Dominican authorities believe Konanki drowned, though her body has not been recovered, according to a report from ABC News.
In a press release, Dominican National Police said she was last seen entering the beach with a group of people at around 4:15 a.m. on March 6. Following her disappearance, police said an “exhaustive search was launched by sea, air, and land.”
ABC further reported that Konanki’s friends were questioned but that no charges have been filed.
Citing sources, Dominican outlet El Nacional reported that Konanki’s clothes were found on a chaise lounge on the beach and that there were no evident signs of violence.
