A Florida woman is facing child abuse allegations after her boyfriend’s 9-year-old son left a sticky note with a chilling message that prompted a police investigation.

Katrina Carrillo, 25, was taken into custody in Miami on Wednesday, April 23 — over a month after the young boy’s note led to an investigation by authorities, according to local ABC affiliate WPLG.

The child allegedly wrote the words “please help us” on a pink sticky note on March 4, according to a police report obtained by WPLG. Per Law & Crime, it was not clear where the note was left and who initially found it.

The message led the Florida Department of Children and Families to get involved, according to WPLG.

On April 9, the child allegedly told a forensic interviewer that Carrillo pinned him to the ground and beat him. He also allegedly said that he felt he “was not breathing” when she put a pink blanket and pillow over his face, WPLG reported.

The Miami Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for information on Saturday, April 26.

Carrillo first visited the headquarters of the Miami Police Department and met with authorities on April 23. She denied any accusations, according to records obtained by WPLG.

The woman was later booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, as prosecutors filed a felony child abuse case against her, per the outlet.

Carrillo was then released from custody after posting $5,000 bail the same day as her arrest, per Law & Crime.

After she was released from custody, Carrillo appeared in court on Thursday, April 24, and was told to keep away from both of her boyfriend’s children, according to Law & Crime.

A legal representative for Carrillo could not be reached to comment on her behalf.

Detectives are now encouraging anyone with information to contact the Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers.

If you suspect child abuse, call the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4-A-Child or 1-800-422-4453, or go to www.childhelp.org. All calls are toll-free and confidential. The hotline is available 24/7 in more than 170 languages.
