A Florida man was arrested on charges of battery and false imprisonment after he was allegedly caught on video attacking an 11-year-old girl.
Marius Mutu was allegedly seen tackling and pinning the young girl to the ground at Allison Park Place in Tampa, Fla., on April 19. Mutu, 43, suspected that the girl had allegedly egged his apartment during the week of April 15, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Deputies arrived at the scene at approximately 12 p.m. on April 19 after neighbors called authorities at the sound of the girl’s distress. Video footage shows a bystander attempting to wrestle Mutu away from the girl while they waited for police to arrive.
The girl is heard screaming, “Please, I wasn’t doing anything. I swear on my life. Help me,” in the footage. Neighbors at the apartment complex were distressed at the sight.
“As a mom, it makes me sick to my stomach for a grown man to do something to a vulnerable person is ridiculous,” neighbor Hannah Noel told Count on NBC News 2.
Mutu claimed that he was attempting to take a photo of the child to report her to the apartment’s management office as the potential egging culprit.
“This type of behavior is not only unacceptable, it’s reprehensible. The safety of our children is non-negotiable,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.

Chronister continued, “This child endured a terrifying and traumatic experience at the hands of someone who chose to take matters into his own hands. We remain committed to protecting our children and ensuring those who harm them are held fully accountable.”
Mutu was arrested and held on a $6,000 bond. He bonded out of jail, per ABC WFTS Tampa Bay. PEOPLE reached out to the HCSO for further comment.
