A 1-year-old Ohio girl was killed by a pit bull despite her mother’s attempts to protect her.
WOIO reported that Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell said the incident occurred on July 2, when the child’s mother called 911 to report that her daughter had been killed by her family dog.
The baby was found with bite wounds to the face and throat, the sheriff reportedly said.
The mother, who had defensive wounds from the incident, reportedly told police that the dog attacked as she was walking in the door with her daughter.
“It was about as terrible of a ordeal as we’ve come across in a long time,” Campbell told the outlet.
The dog was euthanized by the child’s father, who was not home at the time of the attack, WOIO reported.
The child was identified as Blakely Blosser in a GoFundMe and in an online obituary.
