The surviving passengers of a deadly car wreck are speaking out about the final moments before a crash that killed their friend and partner.
Charlie Hilton, 25, was driving a group of friends while drunk and being tailed by police when he struck a tree, causing the car to flip and burst into flames, according to the London Evening Standard.
Lillie Clack, 21, died from her injuries shortly after the crash, which happened in the early morning on Christmas Day 2021.
A group of friends had been out in London’s West End when Hilton offered them a ride home, the Standard reported. Delia Casey rode in the passenger seat and was one of six people in the car.
During a coroner’s court investigation, she recalled the driver’s speed and the chaos inside the vehicle, but said she doesn’t remember what happened after the crash since she hit her head, per the Standard.
“Everyone was shouting inside the car,” she said, according to the outlet. “There was a lot going on and I was just feeling fearful for everyone in the car.”
“The speed we were going at made me feel terrified. It was all happening in what seemed like a few seconds,” Casey continued. “It feels like a blur. Even after I visited Lily’s tree [established in her honor], I still have no memory of the accident.”
Lillie’s boyfriend, Jack Watson, said he asked to be let out of the car with her, but Hilton allegedly told him to shut up, according to the Daily Mail.
“I think I might have said ‘Charlie what are you doing, why are you going so fast?’ I think the girls were in shock,” Watson said, adding, “It just felt unsafe.”

“I remember asking ‘Where’s Lillie?’ I remember being in an ambulance and blood on my jacket but I do not know where the blood came from,” Watson said, the Daily Mail reported.
A police officer said he was driving about 90 mph while following Hilton, who was “greatly getting away,” according to the outlet.
Lillie’s mother, Debbie, remembers her daughter as popular and hard-working, adding the young woman was her “pride and joy,” and recalling how Clack used to dress up as different Disney princesses for kids’ parties as a teenager, per the Standard.
Hilton later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and other charges leading to Clack’s death and was sentenced to 10 years and six months in jail in 2023.
