NEED TO KNOW

  • Brandon Dominguez, 11, was killed after being shot during an alleged road rage incident in Nevada
  • Tyler Johns has been charged with murder, accused of firing the shot that killed Brandon
  • Police reportedly said Johns and Brandon’s stepfather were “jockeying for position,” leading to the road rage incident

An 11-year-old Nevada boy died after an alleged road rage incident involving two drivers “jockeying for position” turned fatal.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal, ABC News and KSNV reported that the boy was riding in the back seat of an SUV being driven by his stepfather on Nov. 14.

The drivers of the two vehicles were “jockeying for positions trying to pass each other on the congested freeway,” Henderson Police Department Chief Reggie Rader said, per the Review-Journal.

The other car, a sedan, was driven by Tyler Johns, police said, according to the outlets.

The chief reportedly said that one of the cars then tried to pass the other on the shoulder and the two drivers began yelling at each other.

Johns then allegedly pulled a gun and fired into the SUV, hitting the 11-year-old, police reportedly said.

The boy’s stepfather then reportedly rammed the other car to prevent Johns from driving away.

The boy was identified as Brandon Dominguez in a GoFundMe started by his family.

According to an arrest report obtained by the three outlets, the stepfather started yelling that Johns had killed his son.

Johns allegedly told police that he had fired his gun but that he “did not know that there was a kid in the back,” per the reports.

Court records indicate that Johns has been charged with one count of open murder with a deadly weapon enhancement and two weapons charges. It is not immediately clear if he has entered a plea.

“Brandon wasn’t just a child we loved; he was truly one of a kind. He had a silly, playful spirit that could make any of us smile, and a heart full of pure joy,” the GoFundMe description reads. “Whether he was showing us the latest TikTok trends, dancing around the house, or laughing at a new video he found, he always knew how to brighten our days.”

According to his family, Brandon loved “soccer, diving into his Roblox games, and spending quality time with all of us.”
