A California woman, whose sister described her as a “devoted” mom of three and a “beautiful soul,” was killed last month when her husband allegedly drove her and another man off the road.
On Jan. 26, around 12:00 a.m. local time, the San Bernardino Police Department (SBPD) responded to a call of a two-vehicle “collision,” where they discovered an “unresponsive male and female inside one of the vehicles,” per a news release from the SBPD.
The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene by the San Bernardino County Fire Department, and a homicide investigation led to the arrest of 31-year-old Isaac Albert Perez, police said.
The victims have since been identified as Asia Guercy, 25, and Charles Dark, 31, according to The Los Angeles Times and KTLA. Both outlets identified Perez as Asia’s husband, citing police,
Per KTLA, the Times and The San Bernardino Sun, Perez confronted his wife and the man over a suspected extramarital affair at a park in San Bernardino that night.
After they drove away, Perez reportedly followed them, before he eventually rear-ended the vehicle and sent it through a chain link fence and into a flood control channel, per the Sun.
Perez’s inmate information on the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department website states that he was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 26, is ineligible for bail and is being charged with murder.
Perez’s next court date is on March 3, records show. According to the Times, he entered a not guilty plea on Jan. 28.
The San Bernardino Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information on Sunday, Feb. 9.
Asia was in a relationship with her husband for 11 years and they shared three children, according to a GoFundMe page launched by her sister, Maliya Guercy. As the sibling wrote, Perez allegedly ran Asia “and her coworker off the road, leading to their untimely deaths.”
Asia previously filed a restraining order against her husband in 2021, citing domestic violence, before a judge denied the request, per KTLA, citing court records.
Maliya told the Times in an email that her sister experienced verbal and physical abuse during the marriage and that she was in the process of leaving her husband when the altercation occurred on Jan. 26.
“Her absence is a tremendous loss for our family and everyone who knew her,” she told the outlet. “Despite her challenges, she always shone brightly.”
Asia’s cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma to the head, KTLA reported, citing the San Bernardino County Coroner.
“Asia was a beautiful soul with a deep faith in God and regularly attended church in San Bernardino, California with her children’s father and children,” the GoFundMe page read. “She leaves behind three young children who now face a future without their loving mother.”
