Demi Lovato's Ex-Fiancé Max Ehrich Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge; Accused of Attacking His Mom By Julia Moore

Demi Lovato’s ex-fiancé, Max Ehrich, has been arrested on domestic violence charges.

The 34-year-old actor was arrested in Florida and booked into St. Lucie County jail in the early hours of Wednesday, Oct. 8, PEOPLE confirmed. Ehrich was accused of domestic violence and arrested on one charge of battery on a person 65 years or older.

He was being held on a $1,000 cash bond, which he paid later that day. He was released just before 3 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Ehrich, who was engaged to Lovato for two months in 2020 before they split, was allegedly abusing nitrous oxide before attacking his mother, per the police, TMZ reported.

Ehrich was livestreaming himself hurting his mom at their home in Florida, according to a police report obtained by the outlet.

Cops were called by a neighbor, whose home Ehrich’s mom went to after he became violent with her during an argument. She allegedly told police that her son “heavily abuses inhalants,” TMZ reported.

Reference to the Leo Baker Act, another term for the Florida Mental Health Act, was also included in his arrest records. The Baker Act applies to people with mental illness in need of crisis services.

In the days leading up to his arrest, Ehrich was posting erratically on social media. His most recent Instagram post was a screenshot of his Notes app with a message that said “My heart is broken :(.” In the caption, he shared his mom’s phone number and asked followers to send her money.

The comments section on the post is filled with concern from his fans and followers. One person encouraged him to “go get help.” They wrote, “If you keep going like this you’re going to die.”

Ehrich, who is best known for his role on The Young and the Restless, proposed to Lovato, 33, in 2020 just four months after they started dating. At the time of their engagement, the singer said she “knew” she loved him “the moment I met you.”

“I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life,” Lovato wrote in the caption of an Instagram post revealing their engagement.

At the time of their split, a source told PEOPLE it was a “tough decision” but they’d “decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers.”
