A Washington woman emotionally confronted her parents as they were sentenced Monday, Aug. 18, after the father brutally attacked her last October while the mother stood by and watched.
Ihsan and Zahraa Ali were both sentenced to terms in prison for the October 2024 assault, which took place outside their daughter’s high school, according to local KOMO and KING 5.
“You think I’m a disgusting human being, well I think you’re a disgusting monster,” Ihsan’s daughter said to him, according to KOMO. “How can you call yourself a father, you tried to kill me, my dad tried to kill me with his own hands, do you have no love for me?”
The daughter, who requested in court not to be publicly identified out of concern for her safety, according to KING 5, alleged that her father was “smiling” while he choked her before other parents and students intervened.
“I’m going to pray for you to stay in jail and die,” Ihsan’s daughter told him.
Both Ihsan, 45, and his wife Zahraa, 41, were found not guilty of attempted murder last month, according to KOMO, KING 5, and The Olympian. Ihsan was found guilty of second-degree assault, domestic violence, unlawful imprisonment, and fourth-degree misdemeanor assault. Zahraa was found guilty of violating a protection order her daughter’s then-boyfriend had against her.
The outlets reported that Ihsan put his daughter in a chokehold and punched her then-16-year-old boyfriend before other students and their parents intervened. The couple’s daughter allegedly had a seizure and became unconscious due to the attack, witnesses told the court throughout the trial, according to KOMO.
Ihsan was sentenced to 20 months in prison for his convictions, while Zahraa was sentenced to one year in prison for hers.
Outside the courtroom, the couple’s daughter told KOMO she’s “glad that I’m away from the situation.”
“I’m glad I’m here,” she said. “I’m still alive. I’m doing things that I’m moving on, but it’s hard to really let go from this family.”
Judge Christine Schaller also provided a statement of support for the couple’s daughter before dismissing the court, telling her that “despite what has happened, you get to define who you are.”
“You have power, and you have strength, and no one can take that away from you,” Judge Schaller told the victim.
