An Ohio dad charged with his 13-year-old daughter’s murder is a fugitive from the law just days after going on TV to talk about his missing child.
Keimani Latigue was reported missing by family members on March 18, the Toledo Police Department said in a press release.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of her father, Darnell Jones, 33, on suspicion of abduction on March 23, police said. The following day, Keimani was found dead in a vacant home and a murder warrant was issued for Jones, who is not in custody.
After Keimani disappeared, Jones spoke to local TV outlet WTVG and said he had last seen his daughter on March 16, claiming that she told him she was afraid to be alone.
“I came over here because she said that it seemed like somebody was trying to break into the house,” Jones told the outlet. “Me and my cousin sat over here for an hour and we left around 12:30-ish.”

According to the abduction warrant, which was obtained by PEOPLE, Jones was allegedly the last person seen with Keimani. Police allege that he further gave “inconsistent statements about his activity with the victim, and their whereabouts.”
WTVG reported that Keimani lived with her grandmother, Dorothy Latigue.
Police have not said where they believe Jones could be, but note in the warrant that he also goes by the name Darnell Jerome Ogletree.
