Dad Blocked Son From Killing 4 Children and Got Stabbed in the Head — Then Blocked Police From Opening Fire on Son By Chris Spargo

A Florida man saved the lives of four children and the man threatening to kill them — his son.

Trevor Nieves-Gonzalez, 22, was taken into custody on Nov. 2 after deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a young man who had already injured one individual and was threatening to kill four children.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies allegedly found Nieves-Gonzalez on the front lawn with his father, who had been blocking him from entering the residence and possibly harming the children inside the home located in Delton, approximately 30 miles north of Orlando.

Body camera footage from the arrest showed the suspect’s father immediately protecting Nieves-Gonzalez when he realized the deputy was armed and aiming his weapon at his son.

Nieves-Gonzalez was then convinced to drop the large hunting knife he had been holding up until that point, at which point two deputies approached him to try and get him into cuffs.

The suspect could be seen cursing, giving the deputies the middle finger and then spitting on one of the men, at which point a Taser came out.

Once hit with the Taser, Nieves-Gonzalez immediately dropped to the ground and police were able to get him into handcuffs.

Body camera footage showed that it was not until this point that the suspect’s father informed deputies that he had been stabbed in the back of the head prior to their arrival.

The father was treated for that injury and others while his son was booked into custody and is now facing charges that include: four counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, four counts of child abuse, and a single count each of aggravated battery, resisting an officer with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.

After making his first court appearance on Nov. 3, Nieves-Gonzalez is expected to return to court for his formal arraignment on Dec. 4, according to his court docket.

Nieves-Gonzalez was appointed a public defender at his first court appearance but he did not respond to a request for comment.
