Colman Domingo managed to avoid a potentially drastic turn for his life.
In PEOPLE’s exclusive look at Domingo’s appearance on Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals, hosted by Mythical Chef Josh Scherer, the Four Seasons star opens up about his work as an actor and navigating fame.
At one point in the discussion, Scherer jokingly asks: “You haven’t joined a cult yet now that you moved to Malibu?”
To that, Domingo admits: “I almost joined a cult in Mexico City, but that’s another story.”

Elaborating on that revelation, Domingo says that the near move was “accidental” on his part.
“I accidentally almost joined the call in Mexico City a couple months ago,” the Sing Sing actor explains. “It was just a group of nice people, and then I was like, ‘Wait a minute, this is weird.'”
“I was like, ‘What’s up with you guys?'” he recalls thinking.

The show’s host admits to having had a similar experience as Domingo’s very recently.
“I was about to talk to a cult the other day, and then they tried to get me to join,” Scherer shares.
“I said no, and they were just like, ‘No, I think you really should,'” he continues. “And then I was like, ‘Don’t mess with cults, man. Don’t be the person that talks to too many people.'”
“And so, I skateboarded away,” he adds.

After Scherer recalls how “nice” the group seemed and how they were “having a great time,” Domingo notes how “they’re always very nice,” but that caution is a must in such interactions.
“There’s always something a little off, and you just have to listen,” says the Oscar nominee.
“This is my first encounter,” he continues. “But as I did research and found out more about them, I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s a cult.”
In response, Scherer jokes: “I still feel like we should join, but after we get dessert and mull it over.”
