A college athlete is dead after a shooting at a pool party.
Jamarion Brown, a 23-year-old basketball player at Henderson State University in Arkansas, was shot in the head and killed at a pool party in east Camp County, Texas, in the early hours of May 24, per ABC affiliate KLTV.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, then flown to another where he later died.
After a joint investigation with the Texas Rangers, a suspect in the shooting, Onterrian Jamour Newton, was arrested and charged with murder, the Camp County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook update posted on Wednesday, May 28.

Newton is currently being held at the Camp County Jail, KLTV reported, and no bail has been set as of Wednesday.
Per the sheriff’s office, other charges for the 17-year-old are still pending.
Brown’s coach at Henderson State, Jimmy Elgas, said the athlete’s death has left a “tremendous void” in the university’s community.

“No words can express our sadness for Jamarion’s family, friends, and teammates. Jo’s impact was felt not only on the basketball court, but throughout the fabric of Henderson State University, and we all grieve together,” he told KLTV.
Elgas added that his memory will be “honored in our hearts forever.”
Brown “was a shining light to all who knew him, remembered for his warm spirit, deep commitment to family, and passion for basketball,” his obituary read. “Whether on or off the court, Jamarion’s kindness, determination, and dedication were evident in everything that he did.”
Two other people at the pool party sustained non life-threatening gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office said on Thursday.
