NEED TO KNOW
- Sean “Diddy” Combs’ criminal trial continued on Thursday, May 15
- His ex-girlfriend, the singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, described alleged abuse she endured during their relationship
- Ventura sued Combs alleging abuse, and the two quickly reached a $20 million settlement
Casandra “Cassie” Ventura is opening up about why she participated in the “Freak Offs” — hours-long sex parties where she alleges her former boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs forced her into sexual activities with other men.
Ventura appeared in court on the fourth day of Combs’ trial for sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.
She has given testimony over multiple days about Combs’ alleged sexual, physical and psychological abuse during their on-again, off-again relationship that lasted about 11 years.
Her bombshell testimony included details of Freak Offs, where she alleged Combs would force her to have sex with other men, urinate on her and often videotape her sexual encounters that he later kept as what she says he described as “blackmail material.”
Ventura told the jury that she did not want to engage in the Freak Offs and had to be on drugs to dissociate from them, and only engaged in the sessions to please Combs.
On Thursday, during cross-examination from Combs’ defense team, Ventura was made to read out pages of text exchanges between the two from when they were dating.
During one exchange in the early stages of their relationship, in 2009, Combs asks her “When do you want to do freak off?” and she responds, “I’m always ready to freak off.”
In other exchanges read to the court on Thursday, Ventura is seen telling Combs she does not appreciate how he treated her.
Prior to the cross-examination, Ventura had told the jury several times that she participated in the Freak Offs to please Combs and because it was one of the few ways she could spend time with him.
In an email exchange in 2010, read aloud in court on Thursday, Ventura is seen expressing her frustration with the lack of time Combs was giving her, per the Associated Press.
“That’s not being in a relationship with someone that you love and are in love with … I am really hurt by the way you deal with me, I don’t need your money, I need some attention,” she wrote.
She also expressed her fears of crossing Combs during their relationship. Earlier in the week, the jury was shown the infamous video of Combs chasing, beating and kicking Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel lobby in 2016. Ventura alleges the incident took place when she was trying to leave a Freak Off session.
Ventura sued Combs in 2023, which the two settled promptly for $20 million, but Combs was soon hit with dozens of lawsuits alleging physical and sexual abuse, most recently a lawsuit that was filed while his trial was underway.
Combs appeared in a tan sweater and white shirt underneath.
