A woman visiting a home in Oroville, Calif., was severely attacked by two dogs when she opened a gate in the yard, police said.
The injuries of the woman, who has not been publicly identified, were so severe, she is “currently unable to speak,” Oroville Police said in a statement.
The attack took place at 12:55 a.m. on May 15, when the woman had just arrived at a home on Burlington Avenue.
Just as she opened the gate, the two dogs in the yard attacked her, police said.
The owner, who has also not been identified, was inside the home at the time, and responded quickly by securing the dogs, rendering aid to the victim and telling bystanders to call 911, police said.
When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from severe injuries to her neck, face, and extremities, police said.
She was rushed to a local hospital where she was given emergency treatment before she was transferred to a higher-level medical facility for more care.
She remains in stable condition, but due to the extent of her injuries, “she is currently unable to speak and has not been able to assist in the investigation,” police said.
