Days after Rep. Melissa Hortman was shot and killed in her home, a break-in was reported at the house of the former Minnesota State House of Representatives Speaker.
CNN, NBC and ABC reported that police in Brooklyn Park, Minn., said officers were alerted to a break-in at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Hortman’s home, which was boarded up following the shooting on June 14.
“The plywood covering the rear window of the home had been pried off and the window broken to gain entry,” police said, according to NBC.
The family reportedly does not believe anything is missing.
Hortman, 55, and her husband, Mark, 58, were shot and killed by a gunman early Saturday morning, in what Gov. Tim Walz called a “politically motivated assassination.”
Also targeted Saturday morning was state Sen. John Hoffman, who was shot along with his wife, Yvette, at their home in Champlin. Both survived the attack.

Following the shooting, the Hortmans’ adult children, Colin, 30, and Sophie, 28, released a statement.
“We are devastated and heartbroken at the loss of our parents, Melissa and Mark,” they said. “They were the bright lights at the center of our lives, and we can’t believe they are gone. Their love for us was boundless. We miss them so much.”
