Sky News reported that Khan received a total of six stab wounds in the attack. This included two deep cuts on his back — with one reportedly close to his spine.
He has since finished surgery and “is out of danger,” according to the BBC.
“He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress,” his team told the outlet.
Staff from Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where Khan received treatment, also told the BBC that he “sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine.”
“A surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one other on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team,” Dr Nitin Dange said, per the BBC.
According to The Independent, the star’s wife actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, 44, and their sons Taimur, 7, and Jeh, 3, were inside the property at the time of the attack but were unharmed.
The Indian Express reported that a domestic worker, who first raised the alarm and was attacked first, also received injuries to her right wrist in the incident. She has been taken to Bandra police station for questioning, the outlet added.
Police also did not find CCTV footage of the suspect entering Khan’s apartment, according to multiple reports. The investigation is still ongoing.
Variety stated that Khan’s acting career spans three decades, starring in movies such as Tanhaji, Devara: Part 1 and Dil Chahta Hai.
