Multiple people have died following a mass shooting at a busy food market in Thailand.
At around 12:38 p.m. local time on Monday, July 28, Bang Sue police responded to reports of multiple fatalities due to a shooting incident inside the Or Tor Kor market on Phahon Yothin Road in Chatuchak District, Bangkok, local news outlets Bangkok Post, The Nation and Thairath reported.
First responders found three security guards and a woman vendor shot dead, while two other women were injured and taken to Phyathai Phahol Hospital, per the outlets. Members of the public were advised to avoid the area until it was declared safe.
The suspected shooter was found dead on a bench a short time later, having allegedly died by suicide, the outlets reported.
He was found dressed in a black T-shirt and camouflage shorts, with a rucksack, the Bangkok Post added.

Following an initial investigation, police believe the motive of the mass shooting was personal, despite it having taken place near a collection point set up to help victims of the Thai-Cambodian border conflict, The Nation stated.

The suspect had previously been employed at the location as a security guard, according to the outlet. In 2019, he was allegedly in a relationship with a market vendor and had a conflict with a co-worker.
“Police are investigating the motive. So far it’s a mass shooting,” Worapat Sukthai, deputy police chief of Bangkok’s Bang Sue district, told AFP, per U.K. newspaper The Independent.
Thai police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Monday, July 28.
