  • At least 11 people have been taken to hospital after a shooting in Little River, South Carolina on Sunday, May 25, police have said
  • Horry County Police have said they believe it’s an “isolated incident” and assured the public, “There is no risk to the community at this time”
  • “Updates will be provided when and as possible,” police said in a Facebook post

Multiple people have been hospitalized following a shooting in South Carolina, police have confirmed.

On Sunday, May 25, the Horry County Police Department (HCPD) said that officers had responded to “an apparent shooting incident on Watson Avenue in Little River,” adding an update at 10:20 p.m. local time to say that 11 individuals had been “transported to area hospitals by Horry County Fire Rescue,” per a Facebook post.

According to the Associated Press, the shooting happened around a boat dock near the Intracoastal Waterway at around 9:30 p.m. in Little River, which is approximately 20 miles northeast of Myrtle Beach.

“We have received reports of others arriving at area hospitals via personal vehicles,” police stated, adding that it was “an active and ongoing investigation.”

Police later confirmed that they believed the shooting “to be an isolated incident.”

“There is no risk to the community at this time,” the HCPD said in the Facebook post, adding, “Updates will be provided when and as possible.”

“Community members are advised to steer clear of the area as public safety personnel do their work,” police advised in the initial post.

A North Myrtle Beach police officer was among those injured on Sunday evening after his gun accidentally fired while he was responding to an “unrelated call for service” in the area of the shooting, per a separate statement shared on Facebook.
