Two people are dead and at least three others injured following a shooting in Las Vegas.
Officers responded to reports of “shots being fired” at a business on the 1700 block of North Rainbow Boulevard, where they found a suspect with a firearm before fleeing the scene at around 1:34 p.m. local time on Friday, May 16, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated in a news release.
One person was found dead at the scene. Two others were rushed to the hospital after being injured in the shooting, with one in critical condition. A third injured victim transported themselves to the hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries,” per the release.
The suspect was pursued and shot by police. Having then been transported to the hospital, he was later pronounced deceased.
“Officers identified a suspect standing at the door armed with the firearm. The suspect ran out the door and officers discharged their firearms, striking him,” said police. “The officers immediately took the suspect into custody and rendered aid. Medical arrived and transported the suspect to UMC Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.”
This incident is the third officer-involved shooting of 2025. The police confirmed in a post on X that no officers were injured in the shooting.
The incident occurred at the Las Vegas Athletic Club, KSNV News 3 Las Vegas and New York Post reported, citing Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Undersheriff Andrew Walsh.
In footage posted by KSNV on X, the suspect is seen lying motionless on the floor of a parking lot after being shot by police, while surrounded by officers. He has not been identified at this time.

Witness Gary Steward, 20, recalled seeing the suspect enter the building at the front desk before firing shots inside, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “As we’re walking up, bullets started coming through and people started flying out,” he told the outlet.

Witness Claudio Vigani, who was at the gym when the shooting happened, told KLAS-TV, “They said ‘Get out, get out, get out,’ then I saw the dead guy next to the machine.”
The Las Vegas Athletic Club said in a statement on X following the shooting, “We are heartbroken by the tragedy that occurred today at our Northwest club💔. Our prayers are with the victims, their families, our members and our team.“
They added that the club is “temporarily closed as we support the LVMPD investigation.”
The cause of the shooting has not been disclosed at this time. This investigation is ongoing.
