Arizona police are investigating the death of a husband, wife and daughter who were found fatally shot in their home as a “probable homicide-suicide” incident.
On Thursday, March 26, Scottsdale police officers were dispatched to a gated community near Indian Bend Road and Via De La Sendero where they discovered the bodies of Tod Daniel Lonergan, 51, Lisa Kay Lonergan, 46, and their 15-year-old daughter, Sophia Brin Lonergan, per the Arizona Republic.
All three family members died from gunshot wounds.
Authorities said they were tipped off after a concerned coworker of one of the victims called police to report “their fellow employees’ absence and that they were unable to contact them,” per a March 27 Scottsdale Police Department press release.
Scottsdale Police Sgt. Allison Sempsis tells PEOPLE that an employee at Lisa’s place of business contacted authorities.
“She hadn’t logged in,” she says.

Officers “checked the perimeter of the residence and, while in the backyard, they observed two people who appeared to be dead inside the house. Officers ultimately made entry into the home and located a third person who was found dead in a separate room,” according to the release.
According to the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner, Tod Lonergan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Lisa and Sophia died by homicide, the Arizona Republic reported, citing the medical examiner’s office.
“It is still an active investigation,” Sempsis says. “It is still considered a probable homicide suicide.”
