NEED TO KNOW
- Mya Fuller was last seen at a party before she vanished in 2022
- She was found fatally shot in a remote area of Wilson County, Tenn., after being reported missing
- Two suspects involved in the slaying have pleaded guilty in connection with her death
A Tennessee man is the second suspect to plead guilty in the 2022 slaying of a 22-year-old woman who was lured to a party, thrown in a trunk and then killed.
Mya Fuller was fatally shot seven times and left in an abandoned lot in a remote area of Wilson County, WTVF reports, citing police.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, Ty’Shawne Bowles pleaded guilty to facilitation for especially aggravated kidnapping and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, per the outlet. He became involved in the crime after he learned about a dispute between his sister, Taiyana Tipton, and Fuller, prosecutors said.
According to a news release from the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference, Tipton had a disagreement with Fuller the night before she was murdered.
Tipton identified Fuller to Bowles, who contacted Fuller on social media and invited her to a party that night. After Fuller left work, she went to the party where a confrontation escalated into a physical fight between her and Tipton.
At the conclusion of the fight, Tipton put Fuller in the trunk of her car, and drove away with her to Wilson County, where she then shot Fuller seven times, per the release.
Bowles admitted to watching the initial beating and heard Tipton say “pop the trunk,” but denied seeing Fuller being put into the vehicle, police said, according to WKRN. He said he drove behind his sister’s car until she drove too far ahead, per the outlet.
In May, Tipton pleaded guilty to all charges involving the death and was sentenced to life in prison.

Fuller’s mother, Tonya Fuller, spoke at a hearing saying she did not agree with Bowles’ 12-year sentence, WKRN reports.
“Mya was murdered, she was beaten, and was tossed just like trash,” she said. “For a year and a half, the defense did nothing. Silence. Quiet. Cowards,” she added. “Today, we stand here with life for the defendants, and my daughter — genius, smart, kind, has never done anything to anybody — and we stay here under justice. Justice has chosen this is the right path for the defendant.”

“Sometimes in criminal cases people have different levels of involvement and responsibility,” said District Attorney Jason Lawson, per WTVF. “Today’s plea reflects the level of involvement that Ty’Shawne Bowles had in this case. He invited her there, and so he has responsibility, but the evidence does not show he intended or participated in her death.”

La’Myra Pipkins is the third suspect charged in Fuller’s death, WSMV reports. Pipkins is charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder in perpetration of a kidnapping.
Her trial is set for November.
The suspects’ attorneys were not able to be reached for comment.
