NEED TO KNOW

  • Human remains have been found and four arrests were made as part of a murder investigation after Izabela Zablocka, 30, disappeared in England nearly 15 years ago
  • The remains were found in a garden on the street where Zablocka — who had moved to Normanton, West Yorkshire from Poland — lived
  • Though Zablock has been missing for years, police only recently learned of her disappearance

Human remains have been found and arrests have been made amid the search for a woman who went missing in England in 2010, police have confirmed.

Izabela Zablocka, 30, disappeared nearly 15 years ago, Derbyshire Police stated in a Monday, June 2 news release. The Polish native was living in Normanton, West Yorkshire after moving to the United Kingdom in 2009 when she vanished.

Zablocka last made contact with family in Poland on Aug. 28, 2010, but hasn’t been seen or heard from since. In a May 2025 news release, police said that they only recently learned of her disappearance and opened an investigation into the case.

In their latest statement, they revealed that human remains had been discovered at an address on Princes Street, where Zablocka was living at the time of her disappearance.

Following the discovery, a 39-year-old woman that was previously arrested on suspicion of murder was rearrested on Monday, police confirmed. They also said that two other women – ages 39 and 43 – as well as a 41-year-old man had been arrested amid the investigation over the course of the last week.

Police said the three arrested in the past week remain on bail pending further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Kane Martin, who is leading the investigation, said, “Izabela’s family are at the forefront of our minds following this discovery and, whilst formal identification has not yet taken place, it is our belief that these remains do belong to Izabela,” the police release stated.

“As such, we have spoken with Izabela’s family in Poland, and they are aware. Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time,” Martin added.

The officer continued, “Identification of the remains is likely to be a lengthy process, but we will issue updates when we are able,” adding, “I know that reports of these findings will send shockwaves through the local community, and I understand the concern of residents.”

Martin confirmed that “officers will remain in Princes Street in the coming days, and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak with them,” adding that detectives “are continuing to piece together information about the days prior to Izabela’s death.”

“Izabela had friends in Derby, socialized in Derby, and worked in Derby,” Martin said. “We know that someone out there will have information about Izabela that may help us understand what happened to her, and urge anyone who saw, spoke to, or heard anything about Izabela in July or August 2010 to come forward.”

“You may hold the key piece of information that we need to understand the full circumstances of Izabela’s disappearance, and to give her family answers on what happened to their loved one,” the officer continued.

Martin said that Crimestoppers, a charity independent of the police in the U.K., was “offering a £20,000 (around $27,000) reward for any information which leads to the conviction of someone in the case of Izabela.”

“Information relating to Izabela’s disappearance recently came to light leading detectives to launch a murder investigation,” police stated in their original press release on the matter.

Derbyshire Police didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
