- There they found a 7-day-old boy suffering from multiple bite wounds, police said
- First responders and EMS performed life-saving measures on the newborn at the home and on the way to the hospital in the ambulance, but the baby boy died
A newborn in Indiana was killed by the family dog, authorities said.
On Thursday, Sept. 4, officers responded to a report about a newborn being bitten by a dog that lived at the home, according to a press release from the Markle Police Department.
Officers, first responders and EMS personnel who arrived at the home found the 7-day-old baby, identified as Jason Weaver, in critical condition and requiring life-saving measures, the Huntington County Coroner said in an additional release.
The baby was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A forensic autopsy showed that the boy died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries, according to the Huntington County Coroner’s Office.
The manner of death was ruled an accident.
The dog that killed the boy was identified by the coroner’s office as a 5-year-old husky/pit bull mix with “no law enforcement reported instances of aggression,” per WPTA.
The situation remains under investigation.
