NEED TO KNOW

  • Three men, including two brothers, were killed in what family members called a “random, tragic act” in Florida over the weekend
  • Robert Kraft, Douglas Kraft and James Puchan were in town for the Mecum Car Show in Kissimmee when they were fatally shot on Saturday, Jan. 17
  • The suspected shooter, 29-year-old Ahmad Jihad Bojeh, was booked into jail on three counts of murder

Three men, including two brothers, were killed in a seemingly random attack outside a short-term rental in Florida over the weekend.

The victims were found shot dead in the Indian Point subdivision near Kissimmee on Saturday, Jan. 17, according to a statement shared by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

In a joint statement shared to social media on Monday, Jan. 19, family members identified the men as Douglas Kraft, of Columbus, Ohio; Robert Kraft, of Holland, Mich.; and James Puchan, of Galena, Ohio. Douglas and Robert were brothers, 10TV and NBC 4 Columbus reported, citing authorities.

The victims’ loved ones wrote in the statement that the trio were in town for the Mecum Car Show, staying at an Airbnb, and had been dealing with auto troubles before planning to return home.

But while the men were waiting for help, “they were being observed from a distance by an unknown individual who was well-known to local law enforcement,” the family members claimed.

“There were no known interactions between the men and this individual prior to the event; they were then approached and senselessly murdered,” the statement added. “This was a random, tragic act.”

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said deputies who responded to the scene found and detained a 29-year-old suspect identified as Ahmad Jihad Bojeh, per the statement. Bojeh is being held in the Osceola County Jail on three counts of murder. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.

NBC 4 reported that Bojeh lived nearby and that authorities found two firearms after serving a search warrant at his home, but it’s still unclear whether those weapons were used in the shooting.

“There is no threat to the community, as the suspect responsible for these horrific and senseless murders has been apprehended by Osceola County deputies,” Sheriff Christopher Blackmon said in the statement.

Court documents obtained by Spectrum News show that Bojeh was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2022 after being charged with attempted murder. He was released in December of that year after a judge ordered him to undergo mental health treatment, prohibited him from possessing firearms, and barred him from contacting the victims.

Additional records viewed by the outlet indicate that Bojeh had been complying with the court’s requirements as recently as March 2024.

“These three wonderful men did not deserve this,” family members said. “Our families are left with an unexpected, unimaginable loss that cannot be put into words. We ask for privacy, prayers, and respect as we mourn and begin to process this tragedy.”
