A Philadelphia man has been arrested and charged after police allege a 2-year-old critically wounded himself after accidentally firing a gun into his stomach, police said.
Rahmir Ponzo, 20, was arrested by police in connection with the shooting, CBS reported, citing a police statement. He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person.
The toddler shot himself in the abdomen around 1:45 p.m. on May 5, inside a Philadelphia home, the outlet reported. According to police, the 2-year-old accidentally fired the gun after finding it in a bedroom.

Police said responding officers found the toddler with a gunshot wound to the stomach, and he was immediately rushed to the hospital, CBS reported. In an update on Tuesday, police said the 2-year-old was still in critical condition.
Police did not specify Ponzo’s possible connection to the child, per the outlet.
