Two people were stabbed on a crowded subway train in Manhattan during the morning rush on Wednesday, June 18.
The incident took place around 7:15 a.m., the NYPD confirms to PEOPLE.
The southbound train was pulling into the Grand Central subway station, one of the city’s busiest stops, which connects to a commuter rail station bringing passengers from outside the city.
The victims, who have not been named, are a 28-year-old who was stabbed in the abdomen and a 32-year-old who was stabbed in the abdomen and buttocks, per the NYPD. They were taken to a hospital and are in stable condition, police said.
The attack, caught in a cellphone video obtained by FOX 5, stemmed from an argument between the 32-year-old and the suspect, FOX 5 and Eyewitness News reported, citing authorities.
The 28-year-old victim was a bystander, per Eyewitness News.
The video published by FOX 5 shows a man in a black jacket attacking a passenger cornered against a subway bench, appearing to stab him at least three times in the legs and back as the victim tries to fend him off.
The suspect then grabbed a yellow bag from the bench and ran out.

Police initially took a person of interest into custody but later released that person, Eyewitness News reported. The NYPD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s inquiries.
The suspect has not been identified as authorities remain on the hunt for him.
