NEED TO KNOW

  • On May 28, Andre Gordon Jr. was sentenced to three consecutive life terms after pleading guilty to three counts of first-degree murder
  • The charges are related to the March 2024 shooting deaths of his 52-year-old stepmother, Karen Murphy-Gordon, his 13-year-old sister, Kera Gordon, and the 25-year-old mother of his two children, Taylor Daniel
  • “The evidence showed [Gordon] was hunting in that home,” Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said at a press conference

A Pennsylvania man who killed three family members, including his 13-year-old sister, and led police on a brief manhunt across state lines, has learned his fate.

On May 28, Andre Gordon Jr. was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the 2024 slayings, according to a press release shared by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Gordon killed his 52-year-old stepmother, Karen Murphy-Gordon, and his 13-year-old sister, who was identified by family in an obituary as Kera Gordon, before carrying out the murder of 25-year-old Taylor Daniel, with whom he shared two children.

Judge Raymond F. McHugh acknowledged the immense pain of the victims’ families, stating, “There are no words to explain why this happened,” according to the release.

The tragedy unfolded on the morning of March 16, 2024, just after Gordon carjacked someone in Trenton, N.J., and violently broke into his father’s home in Falls Township, Pa., per the release.

There, prosecutors said Karen and her daughter, who were hiding in a home office, pleaded for help in a 911 call. In the call, Karen can be heard claiming her stepson was “shooting” with the young girl adding, “Please, please, please, please hurry,” the release states. The call captured their last moments, including screaming, gunshots, and then silence.

Police who responded to the home found the mother and daughter dead at the scene. Gordon’s father and Karen’s other daughter, as well as a visiting relative, were unharmed.

About 10 minutes later, Gordon broke into Daniel’s home and fatally shot her, prosecutors said.

A harrowing 911 call from Daniel captured her urging others in the house to lock themselves in their rooms, screaming, “He’s got a gun,” per the release. This call also ended with screams, gunshots, and subsequent silence, followed by the cries of children, one calling for “mommy,” prosecutors said.

Taylor Daniel

According to prosecutors, Daniel’s 5-year-old and 3-year-old daughters, her brother, and her mother, Nancy Daniel, were inside the home. Gordon also bludgeoned Nancy with an assault rifle as she tried to intervene, requiring staples for a head wound.

After killing Daniel, Gordon fled the scene and carjacked a man in the parking lot of a Dollar General in Morrisville, Pa., prosecutors said. A three-hour shelter-in-place order was issued until Gordon was apprehended around 5 p.m. that day in Trenton, N.J., where he was found barricaded with hostages in a home.

Prosecutors said both Karen and Daniel died protecting their children.

“I lost more than my sister and my niece,” Karen’s brother said in court, per the release. “I lost a piece of myself that I never thought I would ever come back from.” According to her obituary, Karen was an Army veteran who immigrated to the U.S. from Jamaica when she was child.

Her daughter, Kera, played clarinet at Charles Boehm Middle School and was remembered as a “young and gifted teenager,” according to her obituary.

“The evidence showed [Gordon] was hunting in that home,” Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said at a press conference on May 28. She added that hearing the 911 calls was the one of the most “heartbreaking” parts of this case.

In addition to his murder convictions, Gordon also pleaded guilty to a slew of other charges including, attempted homicide, burglary, aggravated assault, robbery of a motor vehicle, and more, prosecutors said.

He’s also serving a concurrent sentence of 42 months to 84 months after pleading guilty to assaulting two corrections officers at the Bucks County Correctional Facility in May 2024.
