In Idaho, a 16-year-old runaway is in custody and being held on a $1 million bond after he allegedly shot a woman dead at her trailer-park home.
The Blackfoot Police Department identified the victim as 30-year-old Rebecca Rivera and named the suspect as 16-year-old Bobby G. Jackson in a press release reviewed by PEOPLE.
Officers launched a homicide investigation on Oct. 23 after responding to a home in the 1100 block of South Broadway, per the release.
The teen arrived at Rivera’s trailer home sometime after 12:40 p.m. that day, shot the woman in the head and ran, according to KIFI Local News 8, EastIdahoNews.com and CBS2 Idaho News.
Investigators wrote in a probable cause affidavit that the teen shot Rivera after she refused to give him a ride, per EastIdahoNews.com, KSL and Law&Crime. “I put a bullet in her brain,” Jackson reportedly told cops, per the affidavit reviewed by the outlets.
In a 2:30 a.m. update on Oct. 24, police said he was taken into custody in Pocatello after an overnight manhunt and that there was no further danger to the public.
Later that day, Jackson was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and ordered held on a $1 million bond at the 3B Detention Facility, according to an updated statement from the Blackfoot Police Department.
Before he was apprehended, police warned Jackson was “extremely dangerous,” and was last seen around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 near Highway 91 and Riverton Road. He was wearing blue Levi’s, a light plaid jacket, cowboy boots and a dark T-shirt, according to an earlier release. Residents were urged to lock their doors and stay vigilant.

Detectives said their preliminary investigation indicates he allegedly stole a firearm before the killing and had been reported as a runaway.
“Our hearts go out to the Rivera family, our community, and all those affected by this tragic crime,” the department said in the updated statement.
